Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday Service

For the first time at school, we will be marking the beginning of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service. Because of half-term, it will take place a week later than the actual date.

Ash Wednesday is a simple and meaningful service that marks the beginning of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter. During the service, there is an optional act called the imposition of ashes, where a small cross of ash is marked on the forehead. Pupils will be invited to take part in the ashing, but it is entirely optional.

The words used during the imposition of ashes will be:

“Remember that God made you and God loves you.”

The ashes are a sign that we belong to God. They remind us that we are created by him, loved by him, and invited to walk closely with him during Lent, a season to pause, reflect, pray, and grow.

If you would like to attend a service on Ash Wednesday itself, Kingsnorth Church will be holding a service on 18th February at 7:30pm, all are very welcome.
