Friday's reflective thought/activity - Following on from yesterday's activity and remembering how you all enjoyed our time bird watching we have included a list of some UK birds . We wonder how many you might see in your own space on during your exercise. Do you notice more birds than before? Maybe you will see different ones? Have you been able to recognise the different bird's songs?

Thursday's reflective thought - How many different trees can you  identify in the outside spaces around you and on your daily exercise

Wednesday's reflective thought - What is learning?

Tuesday's reflective thought - again, a little different today!

Happy playlist! Make a playlist of your favourite feel-good music. Add to your playlist everyday and spend some dancing to your feel-good music. If other people in your household make a playlist find out why they've chosen their music and have a dance to theirs as well :-)

Keep listening to the stories on YouTube - it's really lovely to hear that you're enjoying them.

Monday's reflective thought - a little different today.

We hope you enjoyed the bank holiday weekend and found time and ways to enjoy commemorating VE Day.

As with the last couple of weeks, you will find the plan for  daily learning in the folder T5W4 to the right of this page. We are looking forward to seeing your work this week and especially how you are using the knowledge already gained in Year 5 and your own high expectations of quality and presentation.

UPDATE - Apologies for any confusion over Daily versus Live lessons - follow this link for the Daily Lessons https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

For Maths in T5W3 please use the BBC Bitesize Daily lessons

The link is on the weekly plan.

You can also access a wide range of live lessons on a range of subjects. Details of how to access these can be found in T5W3 folder.

No need to print the worksheets, just use paper and pencil. Practise different methods, this is all brilliant revision.

Thursday - some fantastic home learning happening guys! We are loving hearing from you and seeing all your hard work and the fun you are having with your families. If you chat to friends make sure they know they can hear the stories on YouTube, can find daily work and projects on this page and can contact us by the year5@kingsnorth.kent.sch.uk!

Friday 8th May 2020: 75th Anniversary of VE Day

Union Jack Flag Bunting 10 Mtrs

Celebrating VE Day: Vera Lynn and veterans share their memories ...

Well – we told you Friday was going to be special. So special in fact, we are posting all the information about it a day early so you can prepare! Friday is an incredible day in the UK’s history. It is going to be 75 years since Victory in Europe Day. This is why the May Bank Holiday has been moved to this day. Read the information and ideas below. All attachments can be found at the  bottom of the page.

What is VE Day?

Watch this video to find out more about VE Day. Have a read of the powerpoint all about VE Day that we have attached below.

Activities

Although we will be staying in our houses on this special Bank Holiday, we can still commemorate the day. Try some of the activities below. We would love to see photographs, especially if you decorate your windows.

  • Create your own bunting, or Union Jacks (there's a template in the attachments below), to decorate your front window.
  • Add to your decoration messages of peace and thanks for all those who have given their life for our country.
  • Write your own prayer of peace and remembrance.
  • Design and create your own medal for someone you consider a hero. This could be a member of the NHS, a keyworker, police officer, firefighter, armed forces, or even someone you rely on in your own family.
  • If you and your family fancy some baking, this link has some great ideas for some stay-at-home bakes with a VE Day theme.
  • Design a poster, or leaflet, or powerpoint, all about VE Day
  • Have a look at the party pack in the attachments below. You could try to learn one of the songs, or dances – or even have a go at a recipe.
  • Imagine it is 1945. Your job is to plan the celebratory street party for where you live. Have a look at the party planning document in the attachments– it has all the rations available to people in 1945. Can you plan a 1945 style party using the rationing information?
  • Try the VE Day comprehension in the attachments below.
  • World War Two is a fascinating time in history. If you are interested and would like to know more, explore this website for lots more information.

Enjoy commemorating this day with your family – and don’t forget to share work or photos with Miss Howling and Mrs Riseley at year5@kingsnorth.kent.sch.uk, we’re looking forward to seeing what you get up to!

Week 2

Tuesday to Friday - Please see the page to the right, T5W2.

We have posted a document outlining all the work for the rest of the week so you can pace yourselves in whatever way suits your family. We want to make things as easy as possible for you. If printing is an issue, where possible ask children to look at the maths questions on the screen as they would do in class and then do their working out on paper.

Friday 1st May - Happy May Day

What a great week you've had so far.  We have loved seeing all the learning you've been doing, both the things we have set and the things you've explored yourselves.

Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you for another great week next week!

Thursday 30th April - last day of the month!

We saw some great work yesterday - keep up the hard work! Don't forget you can email (parents or children) at year5@kingsnorth.kent.sch.uk even just to say hi! Don't worry if you haven't been doing much school work, we'd still love you to say hello!

We continue to explore different ways to set work in way that is helpful. Please see a new link on the right of this page which will keep all the weeks resources in one place. We will date the resources daily to show progression, however you may want to do lots of sports and art in the garden today and save the work for tomorrow and the rain. It may be that because family are working shifts, today is your weekend - do what works for you!

Remember to use the the Year 5 Topics covered Terms 1-4 document if you would like to access your own revision using BBC daily lesson, BBC Bitesize, White Rose Maths and Twinkl.

Please continue to contact us at Year5@kingsnorth.kent.sch.uk

Flextangle Friday - 24.04.2020

What a week!! We are so impressed with the amount of hard work you've all been putting in at home. Apologies to everyone who was completely flummoxed by the infamous 'Q7' on Tuesday.... panic not, it caused national confusion so we weren't alone.

We hope you've been looking at all your brilliant photos on the website - keep them coming, we love seeing what you're up to and hopefully it's nice for you to 'see' your friends.

So what to do today? Today is Flextangle Friday - watch this clip and see the template in the links below to see if you can make one of these. If you don't have a printer try and draw the pattern from looking at the template or trace on the screen. I wonder if you could incorporate the rainbow theme? Send us your photos of your flextangles and any other silliness you get up to today!

(Of course, reading and times tables practice are always good to do a little of each day!)

Thursday

I wonder if you know who was born and died on this date (2 separate years of course!)

If you'd like to, do some research on this fantastic poet and playwright.

English - Today there is a sentence structure PowerPoint (link below) to have a look at. Use the information to develop your short story. Pick one sentence per paragraph in your draft to improve by adding a relative or subordinate clause. You may want to improve more.

Flashback - continue with slide 4. Remember little and often!

Maths - Have today off! You've worked hard and this is new content, things we haven't covered in class. If you want to, you can look at the list of topics covered so far and revise one of those using BBC Bitesize for example.

Wednesday

We have added a document below that tells you the topics we have covered in English, Maths, Science, History and Geography. Hopefully this will help you if are wanting to revise your own topics, using any of the brilliant free online resources available at the moment.

Keep sharing all your brilliant photos of you learning at home.

Flashback Maths - you will find the powerpoint in the links below. Please do one a day - don't rush ahead! The idea is little and often! You will need to 'start slide show'  to see the questions without the answers!

White Rose Maths - lesson 3. If you find you are struggling because the content is new but you want to carry on open the answers document to help you see how they got the answer or to mark your work.

Finally, don't forget to keep an eye on the Youtube channel for plenty of new stories and continuing chapters of our new class novels - watch/listen to either or both Year 5 books - you don't have to stick to your class!

Great to be back with you all, Miss Howling and Mrs Riseley are looking forward to a really productive term.

Happy Easter

Well Year 5 students (and parents), we have officially come to the end of an unusual term. Thank you all for engaging with the home learning, we have very much enjoyed staying in contact with you all. We would now like to wish you a very happy and cosy Easter.

Remember, if you are looking for something to do:

(1) Look at the activities for Year 5 on Twinkl or BBC Bitesize. These are both excellent websites, with lots of fun things to do and many resources for Maths and English if you would like to revise what we have been doing so far in Year 5. There is also an attachment at the bottom of this page called 'Useful Links for Learning at Home' which offers some other websites too.

(2) Keep checking the Kingsnorth School channel on Youtube - click here to go to the channel - both Miss Howling and Mrs Riseley will be posting readings of Truckers and The Boy At The Back Of The Class for you to enjoy! There will be lots of activities for you to do relating to these books after Easter, but for now simply enjoy listening.

Happy Easter! We look forward to speaking to you all again after the break.

Mrs Riseley and Miss Howling
