ENGLISH
Writing:
In English, we follow the Read, Write, Inc scheme of learning. We will be focusing in particular on ensuring work is demarcated with full stops and capital letters and that sentences are coherent.
Attached below is a list of common exception words as well as high-frequency words. We would really appreciate your support in helping your child practise spelling these words so that they are confident in both reading and writing them independently.
The video below will help you to understand how to say each of the sounds from Set 1 to Set 3. It would be really beneficial for you to watch this to support you with your child's learning.

For writing, we will continue to make our own books through 'Writing for Pleasure'. This term, we will be finishing writing our 'Information and me' books so that we can have a publishing party! Then we will go on to writing chapter books.
We are often asked how you can support your child with writing at home. Here are a few ideas that will support your child in both their creativity and in practising the structure and content of various genres:
- Write a letter or postcard to someone
- Write a recipe or instructions on how to do something
- Keep a diary, updating it regularly
- Write a familiar story in your own words *maybe even change some of the elements i.e. character, setting etc.
Reading:
We consistently review your child's reading level and adjust this accordingly. Please listen to your child read daily and ask them questions about what they are reading. Below are some links to online books which you may find helpful.

RE:
In RE this term we will be exploring the religion of Islam and learning about Muslim people’s beliefs. We will also relate this to our own experiences, world views and beliefs and those of the religions and world views we have already learnt about. Our big question this term is, 'Who is a Muslim and what do they believe?'
SCIENCE:
Our unit across the next two terms is Plants. We will be learning to observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants; and find out and describe how plants need water, light and suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.
PE:
In PE, we follow the TLG scheme of learning. Below is a yearly overview of the topics your child will cover in Year 2.
Our unit across this term will be striking and fielding.
PE is on Tuesdays and Fridays. Your child can wear their PE kit throughout the day.
PSHE:
We follow Jigsaw for our PSHE learning. This term we will be focusing on "Healthy relationships". This will involve discussions about family and friends and how we know when a relationship is a positive one.
History:
What was Victorian Kingsnorth like?
We will be learning about the history of Ashford. We will be finding out how old Ashford is and compare the town in terms of the past and the present. We will develop enquiry skills, such as using information and photographs to research past events.
