Spirituality
What is Spirituality, and What Does It Mean to Us at Kingsnorth?
At Kingsnorth Church of England Primary School, we understand that Spirituality is unique to every person and is a very personal experience. We believe that by exploring Spirituality, we are providing our children with experiences and opportunities that educate the whole child and promote our school vision and values, to enable everyone to flourish.
We define Spirituality at Kingsnorth as a personal journey to nurture the soul. It is an approach which allows us to explore and question ideas and concepts that are bigger than us. It also helps us to understand relationships between themselves and others, with nature, with the environment, with the world and with God. We recognise that being Spiritual is not the same as having a faith: a person can be spiritual without having a faith. Spirituality in our school allows us to explore the windows, mirrors and doors through which we can view and connect with life, that afford us opportunities to grow wholly and fully.
We explore spiritual development in three vital ways in our school:

Windows: Giving children opportunities to become aware of the world in new ways; to wonder about life’s moments and experiences of awe and wonder, both positive and negative. In this, children are learning about life in all of its fullness.

Mirrors: Giving children opportunities to reflect on their experiences; to meditate on life’s big questions and to consider some possible answers. Within this experience, they are learning from life by exploring their own insights and the perspectives and those of others.

Doors: Giving children the opportunity to respond to all of this; to do something creative as a means of expressing, applying and further developing their thoughts and convictions. In this they are learning to live by putting into action what they are coming to believe and value.
